Thanks to Bev for sharing this incredible TED video that shows Pattie Maes and Pranav Mistry demonstrating MIT lab’s wearable device that extends a “sixth sense” like presence into the human existence.  The prototype, estimated to hit the market around $300, allows our physical presence to converge, almost melt, with the digital content available about our physical surroundings.  This is challenging for me to put into words right now – watch it!

Imagine being able to open the palm of your hand to dial a phone number on your skin, walk up to a colleague at a conference and see a word cloud of her blog/delicious tabs appear on her shirt, pull a book off a shelf and see the amazon rating project on the cover and user reviews flow digitally onto the following pages.

Did she say something about brain implantation at the end?  Implications for this run deep through so many levels.  What do you think?  I’m trying to imagine teaching to a room full of students — half with these brain implants and half without.  Hmmm.

Nine minute video.
