I checked the smARThistory blog this week for updates and was ecstatic to read Beth’s comments about VoiceThread. It is a new, free, interactive, easy-to-use online tool that allows for asynchronous voice discussion about images. VoiceThread also allows a user to draw or annotate directly on an image. This tool is precisely what I, and I imagine all other online art history instructors, have been dreaming of for years. I’ve created a VoiceThread
and posted it here. This example demos the tool and provides some examples of how it can be used to support student learning outcomes. Check it out! If you have great ideas for how to use it in your class, let me know!

    Hi Michelle,
My name is Ben and I am one of the founders of Voicethread. We were “wowed” by your Art History VT. It’s great to see educators finding us, and more importantly, using us. If there is anything we can do to enhance your experience with Voicethread, we would love to hear from you.
    Thank you,
    Ben
